Cardiac Damage Analysis

Cardiac damage analysis is the systematic assessment of injury to the heart muscle, coronary vessels, or cardiac structures, helping clinicians distinguish tissue damage from changes in normal function. It combines clinical findings with measurements such as cardiac biomarkers, electrocardiography, echocardiography, and other imaging methods: biomarkers indicate myocardial-cell injury, while electrical and imaging tests reveal ischemia, impaired contraction, or structural abnormalities. In medicine, this approach supports diagnosis and risk assessment in conditions including myocardial infarction, myocarditis, heart failure, and treatment-related cardiotoxicity. Repeated measurements can track progression or recovery and guide timely intervention, while standardized analysis strengthens research on disease mechanisms, therapies, and patient outcomes.

Simultaneous 3D Analysis of Cardiac Damage and Immune Response in Reperfused Acute Myocardial Infarction Using Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy

2025

Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of cardiac damage in reperfused acute myocardial infarction (repAMI) enables faithful quantification and co-localization of associated disease-affecting patterns. Here, an automatable light sheet-guided imaging approach is provided for contemporaneous measurement of cardiac damage, area at risk, and immune cell response.

Human infection by Entamoeba histolytica leads to amoebiasis, a major cause of diarrhea in tropical countries. Infection is initiated by pathogen interactions with intestinal epithelial cells, provoking the opening of cell-cell contacts and consequently diarrhea, sometimes followed by liver infection. This article provides a model to assess the early host-pathogen interactions to improve our understanding of amoebiasis pathogenesis.

Streptococcus pneumoniae forms discrete non-purulent microscopic lesions in the heart. Outlined is the protocol for a murine model of cardiac microlesion formation. Instruction is provided on microlesion visualization using microscopy, discrimination between early and late microlesions, and methods to detect cardiac remodeling in hearts of convalescent animals.
