Clinical Pathologic Correlation

Clinical pathologic correlation is the systematic comparison of a patient’s clinical presentation with pathological findings to explain disease and improve diagnosis. It works by linking history, symptoms, physical examination, laboratory results, and imaging with gross and microscopic tissue changes, allowing clinicians to assess whether observed abnormalities account for the patient’s condition. In medicine, this approach strengthens diagnostic reasoning, helps distinguish diseases with similar presentations, and clarifies how disease mechanisms produce specific findings. It also supports clinicopathologic conferences, effective communication between clinicians and pathologists, and more informed decisions about management and prognosis.

A method is described whereby quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles can be used for correlative immunocytochemical studies of epoxy embedded human pathology tissue. We employ commercial antibody fragment conjugated QDs that are visualized by widefield fluorescence light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

Expansion Pathology: A Method for High-resolution Optical Imaging of Clinical Tissue Samples

Organized brain cutting procedures are necessary to correlate specific neuropsychiatric phenomena with definitive neuropathologic diagnoses. Brain cuttings are performed differently based on various clinico-academic contingencies. This protocol describes a symmetric bihemispheric brain cutting procedure to investigate hemispheric differences in human brain pathologies and to maximize current and future biomolecular/neuroimaging techniques.

Correlations

Correlation means that there is a relationship between two or more variables (such as ice cream consumption and crime), but this relationship does not necessarily imply cause and effect. When two variables are correlated, it simply means that as one variable changes, so does the other. We can measure correlation by calculating a statistic known as a correlation coefficient. A correlation coefficient is a number from -1 to +1 that indicates the strength and direction of the relationship between...
