Disease Diagnosis

Disease diagnosis is the systematic process of identifying a health condition from a patient’s symptoms, medical history, physical findings, and clinical test results. Clinicians develop and compare differential diagnoses, then interpret evidence from laboratory analyses, imaging, pathology, or other assessments to determine which condition best explains the observed pattern. Accurate diagnosis guides treatment selection, helps predict disease progression, and supports timely intervention, while also distinguishing similar disorders with different management needs. In medicine, diagnostic reasoning combines clinical expertise with validated technologies and may be refined as new information emerges, improving patient outcomes and advancing disease surveillance and research.

Following assessment, a nursing diagnosis is the next step in the nursing process. It begins after the nurse has collected and recorded the patient data. The purpose of diagnosing is to identify how the client responds to actual or potential health processes, identify factors that bestow or that cause health problems, the etiologies, and identify resources or strengths the individual, group, or community can draw on to prevent or resolve problems. The nursing diagnosis focuses on evidence-based...

An Overview of Genetics and Disease

2023

Many human diseases are associated with mutations or variations in genetic sequences. Some of these genetic variants are heritable, passed down from generation to generation, while others arise sporadically during an organism’s life and cause diseases such as cancer. Researchers are trying to identify and characterize these genetic alterations in the hopes of improving diagnosis and therapeutic options for patients. In this video, we will examine the history of genetic disease research, and...
