High-frequency Linear Probe

A high-frequency linear probe is an ultrasound transducer that produces high-resolution images of structures near the body surface, making it valuable for focused medical assessment. Its linear array of piezoelectric elements converts electrical energy into high-frequency sound waves and detects returning echoes, while electronic beam steering and rapid pulse transmission construct a rectangular image. Compared with lower-frequency probes, it provides greater spatial resolution but less tissue penetration. Clinicians use it to examine vessels, muscles, tendons, nerves, skin, and superficial masses, and to guide procedures such as vascular access, biopsies, injections, and regional anesthesia.

Linear Approximation in Frequency Domain

2024

Linear systems are characterized by two main properties: superposition and homogeneity. Superposition allows the response to multiple inputs to be the sum of the responses to each individual input. Homogeneity ensures that scaling an input by a scalar results in the response being scaled by the same scalar. In contrast, nonlinear systems do not inherently possess these properties. However, for small deviations around an operating point, a nonlinear system can often be approximated as linear.

2025

This video outlines a protocol for implanting a multi-shank linear silicon probe into the mouse brain to measure local field potentials. The procedure involves securing the probe to a stereotaxic unit, positioning it accurately over the target brain region, inserting it into the brain, and securing it with dental cement. After implantation, the assembly is protected with a casing. Following recovery, the setup allows for recording local field potentials, providing insights into neuronal...
