Laparoscopic Operation

A laparoscopic operation is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses small abdominal incisions rather than a large open incision, often reducing tissue disruption and supporting faster recovery. Surgeons insert a laparoscope, a narrow instrument with a camera and light, through one incision and pass specialized instruments through others; carbon dioxide may be introduced to expand the abdominal cavity and improve visibility. Laparoscopic operations are used for procedures such as gallbladder removal, appendectomy, hernia repair, and gynecologic surgery, depending on the patient and condition. The approach can lessen postoperative pain, scarring, and hospital stays, while requiring specialized training and careful patient selection.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.
