Pathology Slides

Pathology slides are prepared specimens of tissue, cells, or bodily fluids mounted for microscopic examination, providing essential visual evidence for identifying disease. During preparation, samples are fixed to preserve structure, processed and sectioned into thin layers, stained to distinguish cellular and tissue features, and examined with light microscopy. In medicine, pathology slides support the evaluation of inflammation, infection, tumors, and tissue injury while helping researchers connect microscopic changes with clinical findings. Careful slide preparation and interpretation improve diagnostic accuracy, strengthen medical education, and support the development of disease classifications and treatments.

Design Example: Designing Water Slide

2025

When designing a water slide, controlling the speed of water flow is crucial for rider safety while maintaining an exciting experience. As water flows down the slide, gravity causes it to accelerate, with its speed at the bottom depending on the height from which it starts. The higher the slide, the more potential energy the water has at the top, which is converted into kinetic energy as it descends, increasing its speed. Bernoulli's principle determines the water's velocity along the slide.

Organized brain cutting procedures are necessary to correlate specific neuropsychiatric phenomena with definitive neuropathologic diagnoses. Brain cuttings are performed differently based on various clinico-academic contingencies. This protocol describes a symmetric bihemispheric brain cutting procedure to investigate hemispheric differences in human brain pathologies and to maximize current and future biomolecular/neuroimaging techniques.
