Post-stroke Recovery

Post-stroke recovery is the process through which a person regains physical, cognitive, emotional, and communication abilities after a stroke, making it central to long-term neurological care. Recovery involves spontaneous healing and neuroplasticity, in which surviving neural networks adapt, reorganize, and form new functional connections, supported by repeated, task-specific rehabilitation. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy can address movement, daily activities, language, swallowing, and cognition while helping patients develop compensatory strategies. Understanding recovery patterns supports individualized treatment planning, improves functional outcomes and independence, and informs research into rehabilitation technologies, biomarkers, and therapies that enhance neural repair.

Theta-Burst Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Promote Stroke Recovery in Rats

Take a rat with a focal ischemic stroke in the brain cortex, resulting in a compromised BBB, reduced blood flow, and excessive neuronal activity.Stroke also induces astrocyte activation, leading to the formation of neurotoxic astrocytes that release pro-inflammatory cytokines. This triggers neuroinflammation, leading to neuronal and endothelial cell degeneration.Restrain the rat and position the rTMS coil over the ischemic region.Administer theta-burst rTMS for several days. The electromagnetic...
