Silk Suture Placement

Silk suture placement is a surgical technique that uses silk thread to bring separated tissue edges together and support wound closure. During the procedure, a needle carries the suture through the tissue on opposing sides of the wound, after which the strands are tied to maintain approximation and control tension. Proper placement promotes stable closure while limiting unnecessary tissue distortion and supporting healing. In medicine, this technique is used in selected soft-tissue repairs and surgical closures, making accurate needle handling, spacing, depth, and knot security important for reliable outcomes.

Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.

Electrospinning of Silk Biomaterials

Silk fibers have been processed and used to create fabrics and threads for centuries. However, the solubilizing of silk fibers, thereby turning it into a versatile pre-polymer solution is a much newer technology. Solubilized silk can be processed in many different ways to create a biocompatible material with controllable mechanical properties. This video introduces the processing of silk from silk worm cocoons, and shows how the silk solution can be used to create a fiber mat via...
