Dyskinesia Behavior Rating

Dyskinesia Behavior Rating is a standardized method for assessing the severity of involuntary, abnormal movements, providing a practical behavioral measure for neuroscience research. Observers score features such as uncontrolled movements, their intensity, and duration under defined experimental conditions, often following changes in dopaminergic signaling or treatment. These ratings help characterize motor dysfunction in models of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, compare disease progression, and evaluate the effects of pharmacological or experimental interventions. Consistent scoring improves the reproducibility of behavioral studies and connects visible motor phenotypes with underlying neural circuit dysfunction.

Induction of Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesias in a Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease

2025

This video demonstrates the process of inducing levodopa-induced dyskinesias in a Parkinson's rat model by administering levodopa alongside a dopamine conversion inhibitor. Repeated injections overstimulate the brain neurons, resulting in motor dysfunction.

Handwriting Analysis Indicates Spontaneous Dyskinesias in Neuroleptic Naïve Adolescents at High Risk for Psychosis

Handwriting analysis software significantly improves upon existing instruments measuring movement disorders. Individuals at risk for psychosis and healthy controls completed handwriting tasks to test for dyskinesia. Results suggest that youth at risk for psychosis exhibit dyskinesia and that handwriting analysis could significantly contribute to wider dissemination of early identification...

The Cyclical Behavior of the Unemployment Rate

2026

The unemployment rate moves in line with the business cycle, rising and falling as the economy contracts or expands. It is countercyclical, meaning it increases during contractions and decreases during expansions. When the economy slows down, firms respond by laying off workers, which raises the number of unemployed people. This increases the unemployment rate. On the other hand, when the economy recovers, firms hire more workers, leading to a fall in unemployment. However, the unemployment rate...

Rating L-DOPA-Induced Dyskinesias in the Unilaterally 6-OHDA-Lesioned Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease

Rodent models of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesias are invaluable tools to identify therapeutic interventions to attenuate the development or alleviate the manifestations that emerge due to the repeated administration of L-DOPA. This protocol demonstrates how to induce and analyze dyskinetic-like movements in the unilaterally 6-OHDA-lesioned rat model of Parkinson's disease.
