Magnet Override Technique

The Magnet Override Technique is a neuroscience method that uses an externally applied magnetic field to influence neural activity without directly wiring a stimulation device to the brain. In practice, the field interacts with an implanted magnetic component or magnetically responsive actuator, producing mechanical force, movement, or another local stimulus that can alter the activity of nearby neurons. This approach supports controlled studies of neural circuits, behavior, and brain-machine interfaces while reducing the need for tethered electrical connections. Its potential for remote, spatially targeted modulation may expand experimental strategies for investigating circuit function and developing less invasive neuromodulation technologies.

A Technique for Magnetic Glass Particle-Mediated Nucleic Acid Extraction from Blood

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for nucleic acid extraction from whole human blood using magnetic glass particles (MGPs) — small magnetic beads coated with silica. Upon lysing the blood cells using a lysis buffer, the released nucleic acids bind to the surface of silica-coated MGPs, extracting the molecules from the sample.
