Msc Migration

MSC migration refers to the directed movement of mesenchymal stem cells through tissues or culture environments, a process relevant to how these cells reach sites of neural injury or inflammation. Migration depends on interactions between chemotactic signals, cell-surface adhesion molecules, and the actin cytoskeleton, which coordinates attachment, shape changes, and forward movement. In neuroscience research, studying MSC migration helps clarify how transplanted cells distribute within nervous tissue and may support tissue repair through local signaling or delivery of therapeutic factors. Migration assays and injury models can therefore inform strategies for cell-based treatment of neurological disorders.

2017

Here, a protocol (MitoCeption) is presented to transfer mitochondria, isolated from human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), to glioblastoma stem cells (GSC), with the goal of studying their biological effects on GSC metabolism and functions. A similar protocol can be adapted to transfer mitochondria between other cell types.

Production and Administration of Therapeutic Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cell (MSC) Spheroids Primed in 3-D Cultures Under Xeno-free Conditions

The therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) is well-documented, however the best method of preparing the cells for patients remains controversial. Herein, we communicate protocols to efficiently generate and administer therapeutic spherical aggregates or 'spheroids' of MSCs primed under xeno-free conditions for experimental and clinical applications.

MSC Seeded Scaffold Preparation: A Technique to Prepare Scaffold Seeded with Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Surgical Implantation into Murine Model

2025

This video describes the technique of seeding mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) onto a biodegradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA) scaffold. The prepared scaffolds can be implanted into the surgical resection cavity of the brain from where they may migrate towards tumor foci. Further, these cells can be engineered to express therapeutic proteins to stimulate apoptosis in cancer cells.

The Transwell Migration Assay

2023

Cells migration in response to chemical cues is crucial to development, immunity and disease states such as cancer. To quantify cell migration, a simple assay was developed in 1961 by Dr. Stephen Boyden, which is now known as the transwell migration assay or Boyden chamber assay. This set-up consists an insert which separates the wells of a multiwell plate into top and bottom compartments. Cells whose migration is to be studied are seeded into the top compartment and the chemoattractant...

Fluorescence-guided Tumor Resection and MSC-seeded Scaffold Implantation in Murine Model: A Surgical Procedure to Deliver Therapeutic Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Brain Tumor Resection Cavity in Mouse Model

2025

This video presents the surgical procedure for image-guided tumor resection and implantation of a bio-scaffold seeded with genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cells or MSCs expressing tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand or TRAIL. These therapeutic MSCs have the potential in treatment of brain tumors.
