Sensillum Lymph

Sensillum lymph is the specialized extracellular fluid that surrounds sensory neuron dendrites within insect sensilla, helping convert environmental signals into neural activity. Secreted and regulated by accessory cells, it provides an ionic environment for receptor function and contains proteins that bind, transport, or modify chemical stimuli such as odorants and tastants before they reach membrane receptors. By shaping stimulus access and electrical signaling, sensillum lymph influences how insects detect odors, tastes, humidity, temperature, and other cues. Studying its composition and dynamics supports research on sensory transduction, insect behavior, host-seeking, and the development of targeted pest-control strategies.

Source: Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, MA The lymphatic system has two main functions: to return extracellular fluid back to the venous circulation and to expose antigenic substances to the immune system. As the collected fluid passes through lymphatic channels on its way back to the systemic circulation, it encounters multiple nodes consisting of highly concentrated clusters of...

Generation of lymph node/fat pad chimeras for the study of lymph node stromal cell origin is described. The method involves the isolation of lymph nodes from newborn mice and embryonic fat pads, the generation of chimeric lymph node-fat pads, and their transfer under the kidney capsule of a host mouse.
