Stimulation Pulse Sequence

A stimulation pulse sequence is a programmed series of electrical or other neural stimuli delivered with defined timing, amplitude, duration, and spacing to influence nervous-system activity. By adjusting pulse frequency, inter-pulse intervals, and train structure, researchers can depolarize neuronal membranes, evoke action potentials, or modulate the likelihood and timing of network responses. In neuroscience, these sequences support controlled studies of neural circuits, synaptic plasticity, sensory processing, and motor pathways. They also guide the design and evaluation of neuromodulation protocols, helping investigators compare transient responses with longer-lasting changes in circuit function.

NMR Spectrometers: Radiofrequency Pulses and Pulse Sequences

A pulse is a short burst of radio waves distributed over a range of frequencies that simultaneously excites all the nuclei in the sample. Upon passing a radio frequency pulse along the x-axis, the nuclei absorb energy corresponding to their Larmor frequencies and achieve resonance. This shifts the net magnetization vector from the z-axis toward the transverse plane. This angle of rotation of the magnetization vector, or the flip angle, is proportional to the duration and intensity of the pulse.

When the heart pumps blood out, arterial elastic fibers play a crucial role in sustaining a high-pressure gradient. They expand to accommodate the received blood and then recoil - a process known as the pulse that can be either manually palpated or electronically quantified. Despite a reduction in its effect with increased distance from the heart, elements of the pulse's systolic and diastolic components persist, observable even at the arteriole level. The pulse serves as a clinical indicator...
