Vascular Dilatory Response

Vascular dilatory response is the widening of blood vessels that increases blood flow to meet the metabolic needs of tissues, including the brain. In neuroscience, neuronal activity can trigger neurovascular coupling, in which signaling molecules such as nitric oxide relax vascular smooth muscle and reduce vascular resistance, producing local increases in cerebral perfusion. This response supports oxygen and nutrient delivery while helping remove metabolic byproducts. Measuring activity-related changes in vessel diameter or blood flow is central to functional neuroimaging and cerebrovascular research, where it helps link neural activity to hemodynamic signals and provides insight into disorders that impair brain blood supply.

Inflammatory Response I: Vascular and Cellular

2025

The inflammatory response is the body's defense against infection, injury, or irritation from bacteria, trauma, toxins, or heat. Inflammation helps locate and destroy pathogens and remove damaged tissue elements to heal the body. During this initial phase, fluid, blood products, and nutrients migrate to the injured area, resulting in redness, heat, swelling, ache, and loss of function. Moreover, signs of systemic inflammation include fever, increased WBC count, malaise, anorexia, nausea,...

Isolation of Intrapulmonary Artery and Smooth Muscle Cells to Investigate Vascular Responses

2022

Vascular responses of arterial pulmonary circulation can be explored using intrapulmonary artery (IPA) and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). The present study describes the isolation of IPA in detail and the protocols used for investigating vasorelaxation in response to physiological stimuli.

To date, thick tissue defects are typically reconstructed by applying autologous tissue flaps or engineered tissues. In this protocol, we present a new method for engineering vascularized tissue flap bearing an autologous pedicle, to serve as a substitute to autologous flaps.

Tools used for visualizing vascular regeneration require methods for contrasting the vascular trees. This film demonstrated a delicate injection technique used to achieve optimal contrasting of the vascular trees and illustrate the potential benefits resulting from a detailed analysis of the resulting specimen using µCT and histological serial sections.

Assessing Myogenic Response and Vasoactivity In Resistance Mesenteric Arteries Using Pressure Myography

Pressure myography is used to assess vasoactivity of small arteries that develop sustained constriction when pressurized. This manuscript provides a detailed protocol to assess in isolated segments of small mesenteric arteries from rats, vasoactivity and the effect of intraluminal pressure on vascular diameter.
