Hydrophilic Metabolites

Hydrophilic metabolites are water-soluble products formed when enzymes transform drugs or endogenous compounds, and they are important because their polarity strongly influences distribution, activity, and elimination. In pharmacology, phase I reactions can introduce or expose polar functional groups, while phase II conjugation often attaches moieties such as glucuronide or sulfate; these changes reduce passive diffusion across lipid membranes and commonly promote renal or biliary clearance. Measuring hydrophilic metabolites helps researchers characterize drug metabolism, identify active or toxic species, and evaluate pharmacokinetic behavior. Their analysis also supports dose selection, drug interaction studies, and assessment of metabolic pathways in preclinical and clinical research.

A Protocol for the Production of Gliadin-cyanoacrylate Nanoparticles for Hydrophilic Coating

2016

This article presents a protocol for the production of protein-based nanoparticles that changes the hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic. The produced nanoparticle is an assembly of gliadin-cyanoacrylate diblock copolymers. Spray coating with the produced nanoparticle changes the surface of target material to a hydrophilic surface.

2026

Begin with a bacterial biosensor culture suspended in a medium. These engineered bacteria produce a transcription factor that, upon binding to a specific fecal metabolite, activates a promoter associated with a fluorescent reporter gene.To this culture, add a filtered human fecal sample containing metabolites, such as lactate, that are involved in host-microbiome interactions.Dilute this mixture with a fresh medium to maintain an optimal reaction volume.Incubate without shaking to mimic the...

We describe here the procedures for the extraction and purification of mRNA and metabolites from Drosophila heads. We are applying these techniques to better understand the cellular perturbations underlying neuronal degeneration. These methodologies can be easily scaled and adapted for other "omic" projects.
