Harmonic Series

The harmonic series is the infinite sum of the reciprocals of the positive integers, 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + ..., and it matters because its terms approach zero without making the total finite. Its partial sums grow approximately as the natural logarithm of the number of terms, so the series diverges, albeit very slowly. In physics, this mathematical behavior helps describe cumulative contributions across modes, scales, or frequencies and provides context for harmonic spectra and Fourier analysis. Understanding the harmonic series supports analysis of oscillations, waveforms, resonance, and signal behavior, while illustrating why diminishing individual effects can still produce an unbounded aggregate.

Harmonic Mean

2023

The arithmetic mean is usually skewed towards the larger values in the data set. Therefore, to avoid this inherent bias towards smaller values, the harmonic mean is used. Take the example of the speed of a car, which is the measure of the rate of distance traveled. If the vehicle traverses the same distance back-and-forth, its average speed equals the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken. However, if the car moves with varying speeds, then the arithmetic mean is more skewed...

Potential energy is the energy associated with forces that depend upon the position of an object relative to its surroundings. Gravitational potential energy, which is discussed in another video, is the energy associated that is directly proportional to the height of an object above...

This protocol presents a step-by-step guide for the Simultaneous Label-free Autofluorescence Multi-harmonic (SLAM) microscopic technique, including details on how to generate the laser light source, prepare a tissue sample, conduct imaging, and analyze the data. SLAM advances nonlinear microscopy by measuring four complementary label-free contrasts to investigate the tissue microenvironment.

The Bohr Model Niels Bohr proposed a model for the hydrogen atom in 1913 that described discrete energy states are associated with a fixed electron orbit around the nucleus. Importantly, an atom cannot discharge energy while its electrons are in stationary states. An electron can only emit energy by changing energy states. To change energy states, an electron must move from one orbit to another by either absorbing or emitting energy. This change can only occur if the absorbed or emitted energy...
