Platinum Black Tip

A platinum black tip is a probe or electrode covered with a porous layer of finely divided platinum, creating a large active surface within a compact geometry. The coating increases the effective surface area and provides numerous sites for electron transfer, while platinum’s electrical conductivity and chemical stability support reliable measurements. In physics and related experimental sciences, platinum black tips are used for electrochemical sensing, catalytic studies, and interfaces where efficient interaction with liquids or gases is important. Their performance depends on coating structure, electrical contact, and environmental conditions, making them useful for studying charge transport, reaction kinetics, and nanoscale surface behavior.

Black Box Model

2024

The Black Box Model of Consumer Behavior conceptualizes the decision-making process as a "black box" where inputs (stimuli) lead to outputs (responses) without fully revealing the internal cognitive processes. It emphasizes the mystery of the consumer's mind and focuses on observable external factors and responses. The model includes external stimuli (marketing efforts, social influences), the consumer's black box (psychological factors, perception, and attitudes), and the resulting behavioral...

Detection of Black Holes

2023

Although black holes were theoretically postulated in the 1920s, they remained outside the domain of observational astronomy until the 1970s. Their closest cousins are neutron stars, which are composed almost entirely of neutrons packed against each other, making them extremely dense. A neutron star has the same mass as the Sun but its diameter is only a few kilometers. Therefore, the escape velocity from their surface is close to the speed of light. Not until the 1960s, when the first neutron...

This protocol describes the use of amide coupling reactions of isonicotinic acid and diaminoalkanes to form bridging ligands suitable for use in the synthesis of multinuclear platinum complexes, which combine aspects of the anticancer drugs BBR3464 and picoplatin.

Intravascular Perfusion of Carbon Black Ink Allows Reliable Visualization of Cerebral Vessels

Analysis of rodent cerebrovascular anatomy plays an important role in experimental stroke research. In this context, intravascular perfusion with colored latex has been considered as a standard tool for several years. However, this technique implies distinct technical limitations, which undermine its reproducibility. Here, we describe a simple method to visualize cerebral vessels in a reproducible manner. Injection of a mixture of two commercially available carbon black inks through the left...

Microdissection of Black Widow Spider Silk-producing Glands

Here we describe an efficient strategy to remove the silk-producing glands from the abdomen of female black widow spiders. This procedure allows the rapid isolation of the seven distinct silk-producing glands in a highly purified fashion, an important process for investigators studying spider silk production and fiber assembly.
