Vector Direction

Vector direction is the orientation of a vector in space, indicating where a physical quantity such as displacement, velocity, acceleration, or force acts. It can be specified using an angle relative to a reference axis, a unit vector, or the vector’s components, with the signs and relative magnitudes of those components determining its quadrant and orientation. Determining vector direction allows physicists to add and resolve vectors, predict motion, analyze forces, and describe fields. In mechanics and engineering, accurate direction calculations are essential for modeling trajectories, equilibrium, momentum, and interactions in two- and three-dimensional systems.

Vectors in Multiple Directions

2023

Source: Nicholas Timmons, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA This experiment demonstrates how vectors add and subtract in multiple directions. The goal will be to analytically calculate the addition or subtraction of multiple vectors and then to experimentally confirm the calculations. A vector is an object with both magnitude and direction. The magnitude of a vector is simply denoted as the length,...

Direction of Acceleration Vectors

2023

Acceleration occurs when velocity changes in magnitude (an increase or decrease in speed), direction, or both. Although acceleration is in the direction of the change in velocity, it is not always in the direction of motion. When an object slows down, its acceleration is opposite to the direction of its motion. This is commonly referred to as deceleration. However, the term deceleration can cause confusion in analysis because it is not a vector; it does not point to a specific direction with...

Direction Cosines of a Vector

2025

Direction cosines, which help describe the orientation of a vector with respect to the coordinate axes, are an essential concept in the field of vector calculus. Consider vector A that is expressed in terms of the Cartesian vector form using i, j, and k unit vectors. The magnitude of vector A is defined as the square root of the sum of the squares of its components. The direction of this vector with respect to the x, y, and z axes is defined by the coordinate direction angles α, β, and γ,...

The protocol describes how to achieve site-directed modifications in the genome of Anopheles malaria mosquitoes using the φC31 system. Modifications described include both the integration and the exchange of transgenic cassettes in the genome of attP-bearing docking lines.

A Protocol for the Production of Integrase-deficient Lentiviral Vectors for CRISPR/Cas9-mediated Gene Knockout in Dividing Cells

We describe the production strategy of integrase-deficient lentiviral vectors (IDLVs) as vehicles for delivering CRISPR/Cas9 to cells. With an ability to mediate quick and robust gene editing in cells, IDLVs present a safer and equally effective vector platform for gene delivery compared to integrase-competent vectors.
