Comorbidity

Comorbidity is the presence of two or more health conditions in the same person, a common and clinically important pattern in psychology because it can alter symptoms, functioning, prognosis, and treatment needs. It may arise through shared genetic, environmental, behavioral, or neurobiological risk factors, while one condition can also influence the onset or severity of another; clinicians assess these patterns through diagnostic interviews, symptom measures, and history-taking. Recognizing comorbidity supports more accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment planning, and coordinated care, and helps researchers study why disorders cluster and how interventions can address overlapping mechanisms.

To investigate the co-morbid Alzheimer's disease (AD) and stroke condition in a novel model, three behavior tasks are described that assess both motor control and cognitive behaviors. These tasks include the beam-walk task, cylinder task and Morris water maze.

This protocol presents the use of CRISPR SunTag-p65-HSF1 (SPH) in adipocytes (AdipoSPH) as an alternative strategy to adeno-associated virus (AAV) for investigating beige fat biology. In vivo injection of AAV-carrying sgRNA targeting the endogenous Prdm16 gene is sufficient to induce beige fat development and enhance the thermogenic gene program.
