Comprehension Questions

Comprehension questions are structured prompts used to assess how well a person understands information, rather than simply recalling isolated facts. In psychology, they work by asking learners or research participants to identify main ideas, infer meaning, explain relationships, or apply concepts after reading, hearing, or viewing material; responses can then be evaluated for accuracy and depth. They support research on memory, attention, language processing, and learning, while helping educators identify misconceptions and adjust instruction. Carefully designed questions can distinguish literal recall from deeper understanding, making them useful for evaluating cognitive performance across developmental and clinical contexts.
