To examine the influences of bevacizumab combined with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) on postoperative brain glioma, particularly its impact on coagulation function and cognitive function, the complete clinical data of 156 patients undergoing glioma surgery in the neurosurgery department of our hospital between March 2015 and October 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients underwent glioma surgery and were then assigned to the observation group (Obs group,  = 79, received bevacizumab combined with IMRT) or the control group (Con group,  = 77, received IMRT without bevacizumab) for analysis during postoperative treatment. The patients' short-term efficacy was evaluated, and their serum markers and coagulation function were compared, as well as the cognitive function, the occurrence of adverse reactions during treatment, the Karnofsky performance status (KPS) score, and quality of life after treatment. Patients' survival was followed up within 2 years after surgery. The Obs group showed a notably higher clinical remission rate and clinical control rate (DCR) than the Con group after treatment. The Obs group showed notably lower levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), IL-6, and epidermal growth factor (EGF), experienced notably shorter prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and showed higher fibrinogen (FIB) and D-dimer (D-D) levels than Con group. The Obs group showed notably better cognitive function, KPS score, and quality of life than the Con group, but no notable difference was observed between them in the incidence of adverse reactions ( > 0.0500). The survival rates in the Obs group were higher than in the Con group. For patients with glioma, postoperative bevacizumab combined with IMRT delivers substantially higher clinical efficacy by lowering serum marker levels and improving cognitive function without significantly affecting coagulation function.

Bevacizumab Combined with Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy on Cognitive and Coagulation Function in Postoperative Glioma Patients.

Atelectasis after supratentorial craniotomy is common. It can lead to the decrease of arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO) in patients with neurosurgical intensive care units (NICU), and the recovery of neurological function is more and more difficult. However, due to the particularity of maintaining the stability of intracranial pressure (ICP), there are few reports on effective ways to alleviate atelectasis and improve oxygenation in patients with NICU effectively.

Efficacy analysis of the lung recruitment maneuver in correcting pulmonary atelectasis in neurological intensive care unit-a retrospective study.

Glioma is one of the most frequent brain tumors with substantial mortality and morbidity, thus designing a simple sensor for achieving highly efficient determination of glioma cell is of great importance. In this work, by preparing 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) non-covalently functionalized carbon black (CB) nanohybrids (CB-PTCA) as matrix and using angiopep-2 peptide (Ang-2) as receptor to recognize selectively glioma cell, a simple and free-labeled voltammetry sensor was developed for the first time to detect glioma cell by using Ang-2 and CB-PTCA modified glassy carbon electrode (Ang-2/CB/GCE): via introducing typical [Fe(CN)] as the signal probe, its electrochemical signal would be suppressed when glioma cells were recognized by Ang-2, and the values of peak current difference varied along with the concentrations of glioma cells. After optimizing the related testing conditions (the amounts of CB-PTCA, concentration of Ang-2 and recognition time of Ang-2 towards glioma cells), a wide linearity from 10 to 10 cells mL and a low analytic limitation of 30 cells mL were achieved for glioma cell. Furthermore, the application of the proposed immunosensor in human serum was also studied, revealing that the results are reliable and the designed proposal offers a significant clinical application for glioma detection.

Simple and free-labeled voltammetry determination of glioma cell.

 We aimed to investigate the impact of postoperative chemotherapy (POCT) on survival in patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.  This study included 786 PCNSL patients, of which 605 received chemotherapy after surgery, and 181 did not. Data from the SEER registry database (2007-2020) were used to analyze PCNSL. Baseline information, including age, sex, race, marital status, primary tumour site, histological type, summary stage, surgical procedures, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, was analyzed. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) (1:1) was employed to balance the effects of confounding variables between the two groups. Subsequently, Cox regression and bidirectional stepwise regression were used to identify independent prognostic factors. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival curves were constructed to assess the impact of POCT on patient prognosis. Additionally, two cases of PCNSL with typical magnetic resonance imaging appearances were presented.  Multivariate Cox regression results revealed that age older than 60 years (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.786; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.272-2.509;  = 0.001) and absence of POCT (HR = 2.841; 95% CI: 2.159-3.738;  < 0.001) were independent prognostic risk factors, while primary tumour locations in the meninges (HR = 0.136; 95% CI: 0.032-0.569;  = 0.006) and other nervous system regions (HR = 0.552; 95% CI: 0.326-0.936;  = 0.027), as well as histological morphologies such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (HR = 0.233; 95% CI: 0.128-0.425;  < 0.001) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (HR = 0.559; 95% CI: 0.356-0.876;  = 0.011), were associated with favourable patient outcomes. K-M curves demonstrated that the group undergoing POCT had a significantly more favourable prognosis compared to the non-POCT group, before (HR = 0.454; 95% CI: 0.343-0.600;  < 0.0001) or after PSM (HR = 0.580; 95% CI: 0.431-0.780;  < 0.0001). For patients with PCNSL, those with tumours located in the infratentorial region (HR = 0.231; 95% CI: 0.078-0.682;  = 0.046), supratentorial region (HR = 0.250; 95% CI: 0.163-0.383;  < 0.0001), overlapping brain regions (HR = 0.201; 95% CI: 0.056-0.727;  = 0.0058), and those who underwent biopsy (HR = 0.740; 95% CI: 0.463-1.182;  = 0.003), subtotal resection (STR) (HR = 0.490; 95% CI: 0.265-0.906;  = 0.0064), or gross total resection (GTR) (HR = 0.613; 95% CI: 0.292-1.287;  = 0.0003) had better prognoses in the postoperative chemotherapy group compared to the non-chemotherapy group.  POCT significantly improves the prognosis of PCNSL patients and identifies the characteristics of the benefiting population. This information aids clinical practitioners in designing personalized treatment plans for individuals and advancing precise treatment.

Impact of Postoperative Chemotherapy on Survival in Patients with Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma: A Study Based on the SEER Database.

The involvement of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in glioma carcinogenesis has gradually been identified. Herein, we aimed to explore the function and mechanism of lncRNA muskelin 1 antisense RNA (MKLN1-AS) in glioma cell oncogenic properties. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was utilized to test the expression of MKLN1-AS, miR-126-5p, and TEAD1 (TEA Domain Transcription Factor 1) mRNA expression. Oncogenic properties of glioma cells were characterized using 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine, flow cytometry, wound healing, transwell, and tube formation assays, respectively. Levels of TEAD1 protein, mobility-related proteins, and Hippo pathway-related proteins were examined by Western blotting. The binding between miR-126-5p and MKLN1-AS or TEAD1 was confirmed by using dual-luciferase reporter and pull-down assays. The murine xenograft model was established for in vivo analysis. Levels of MKLN1-AS in glioma tissues and cell lines were higher, functionally, MKLN1-AS deficiency could suppress glioma cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, and induce apoptosis in vitro, as well as impede tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, miR-126-5p was targeted by MKLN1-AS, miR-126-5p directly targeted TEAD1. The suppressing effects of MKLN1-AS deficiency on glioma cell oncogenic properties were abolished by TEAD1 overexpression or miR-126-5p inhibition. Besides, MKLN1-AS/miR-126-5p mediates the activation of Hippo pathway by TEAD1. MKLN1-AS knockdown weakened glioma cell oncogenic phenotypes and growth via TEAD1-Hippo pathway through miR-126-5p, indicating a new therapeutic target for glioma molecular therapy.
