Aerial Arena

An aerial arena is a controlled laboratory space designed to measure animal behavior during flight, allowing researchers to study how individuals respond to environmental and social cues. By regulating factors such as illumination, airflow, visual targets, odors, or nearby animals, the arena enables precise observation and recording of flight paths, orientation, speed, landing, and interaction patterns. These measurements help link sensory inputs to behavioral decisions and motor responses. Aerial arenas are useful in studies of navigation, attraction and avoidance, courtship, predator-prey behavior, and responses to changing environments, providing reproducible conditions for analyzing behavior in insects and other flying animals.
