Protein Replacement

Protein replacement is a biochemical strategy that restores the activity of a missing, deficient, or dysfunctional protein by supplying a functional version. The replacement protein may be administered directly or produced through engineered cells, then delivered to the relevant tissue or cellular compartment, where it binds its targets or catalyzes its normal reaction. In biochemistry, this approach supports the study and treatment of protein-deficiency conditions, including inherited enzyme disorders, while also providing a framework for evaluating protein stability, delivery, activity, and immune responses. Its effectiveness depends on maintaining functional structure and reaching the site where the protein normally acts.

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy

2025

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, also known as CRRT, is a procedural treatment for acute kidney injury (AKI) that gradually removes uremic toxins and fluids while maintaining acid-base balance and stabilizing electrolytes. It is particularly useful for hemodynamically unstable patients. Unlike intermittent hemodialysis, which is faster, CRRT provides a gentler approach over 24 hours, closely mimicking the function of natural kidneys. However, CRRT is not ideal for patients with...
