Graft Retrieval

Graft retrieval is the controlled recovery of an implanted or engineered tissue graft for post-implantation assessment, helping researchers determine how the construct performs in a biological environment. At a defined experimental endpoint, the graft is exposed, separated from surrounding tissue, removed with minimal disruption, and preserved for structural, biological, or mechanical analysis. In bioengineering, retrieval supports evaluation of graft integration, degradation, inflammation, vascularization, and functional performance through methods such as histology, imaging, and mechanical testing. These findings guide material selection, scaffold design, fabrication strategies, and the development of safer, more effective tissue-engineered implants.

Retrieval

Retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory storage and back into conscious awareness. This ability is essential for daily tasks like brushing hair and teeth, driving to work, and performing job duties. Retrieval occurs in three ways: recall, recognition, and relearning. Recall involves accessing information without cues, such as during an essay test, where individuals must retrieve facts and concepts from memory unaided. Another example is remembering the name of a colleague...

2026

Many important reactive minerals are formed during in situ groundwater remediation; however, conventional drill core-based methods often present challenges in collecting these minerals. This article offers techniques for utilizing the Min-Trap, an innovative passive sampling device, to effectively collect and measure reactive minerals from conventional monitoring wells.

ER Retrieval Pathway

2023

In the secretory pathway, vesicles transport proteins from one cellular compartment to another in forward transport to deliver the protein to its correct location. Occasionally, misfolded proteins and incorrect proteins escape their original compartments, and a retrieval pathway is used to return the escaped proteins to their original compartment. The ER uses many checkpoints to prevent the entry of incorrectly folded or a resident protein as cargo onto a transport vesicle. These mechanisms...
