Pulmonary Epithelium Seeding

Pulmonary epithelium seeding is the process of placing lung epithelial cells onto engineered scaffolds, biomaterial surfaces, or decellularized lung matrices to recreate the tissue’s lining. In controlled culture conditions, cells attach to the scaffold, spread across its surface, and may proliferate and differentiate to form a continuous barrier that supports airway or alveolar function. This bioengineering approach helps generate lung tissue models for studying epithelial biology, injury, and disease, while also supporting research into regenerative therapies and drug responses. Successful seeding depends on cell type, scaffold properties, distribution within the matrix, and maintenance of an appropriate cellular environment.

Seed Structure and Early Development of the Sporophyte

2020

Seed structures are composed of a protective seed coat surrounding a plant embryo, and a food store for the developing embryo. The embryo contains the precursor tissues for leaves, stem, and roots. The endosperm and cotyledons—seed leaves—act as the food reserves for the growing embryo. The embryo contains a double set of chromosomes, one set from each parent. Fertilization of the haploid egg by the haploid sperm gives rise to the zygote, which develops into the embryo. The endosperm is a...

The following protocol describes the methodology for the acquisition and analysis of echocardiographic images used to obtain the Left Atrial Volume (LAV), Aorta (Ao) diameter, and Pulmonary Artery (PA) diameter in mice. This technique is a non-invasive, non-terminal procedure that allows assessment of the cardiopulmonary function.

2013

A method to image ex vivo pulmonary resection specimens with optical frequency domain imaging (OFDI) and obtain precise correlation to histology is described, which is essential to developing specific OFDI interpretation criteria for pulmonary pathology. This method is applicable to other tissue types and imaging techniques to obtain precise imaging to histology correlation for accurate image interpretation and assessment. Imaging criteria established with this technique would then be...

Catheter-based Endovascular Angioplasty for Fibrosing Mediastinitis-associated Pulmonary Vein Stenosis

2025

Pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) is a life-threatening complication of fibrosing mediastinitis (FM), with a poor prognosis if not properly treated. Currently, catheter-based endovascular angioplasty is a promising therapeutic strategy for FM-associated PVS. This protocol primarily outlines a stepwise approach to the transcatheter procedure for FM-associated PVS.
