E-plate Setup

E-plate setup is the preparation of specialized cell-culture plates used for label-free, real-time analysis of cellular behavior through electrical impedance. Each well contains microelectrodes that detect changes in impedance as cells attach, spread, proliferate, or respond to experimental treatments, producing continuous measurements without fluorescent labels. Proper setup includes coating or conditioning the wells when required, adding cells and culture medium, and establishing stable baseline readings before recording. In biological techniques, E-plate assays support studies of cell adhesion, viability, growth, migration, and drug-induced cytotoxicity, providing dynamic data that can complement endpoint microscopy or biochemical measurements.

2012

A fast and inexpensive method for the behavioral determination of hearing parameters like hearing thresholds, hearing impairments or phantom perceptions (subjective tinnitus) is described. It uses pre-pulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response and can be easily implemented in a personal computer using a programmable AD/DA-converter and a piezo sensor.

Jet Impinging on an Inclined Plate

2023

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI The goal of this experiment is to demonstrate how a fluid flow exerts forces on structures by conversion of dynamic pressure into static pressure. To this end, we will make a plane jet impinge on a flat plate and will measure the resulting pressure distribution along the plate. The resultant force will be estimated by integrating the product between the...

2013

In this protocol the fabrication, setup and basic operation of a microfluidic picoliter bioreactor (PLBR) for single-cell analysis of prokaryotic microorganisms is introduced. Industrially relevant microorganisms were analyzed as proof of principle allowing insights into growth rate, morphology, and phenotypic heterogeneity over certain time periods, hardly possible with conventional methods.
