Cephalic Periarterial Nerves

Cephalic periarterial nerves are nerve fibers that travel alongside arteries in the head and neck, forming neurovascular pathways that coordinate blood vessels with neural control. These nerves commonly include sympathetic fibers, whose postganglionic axons release norepinephrine at vascular smooth muscle to adjust arterial diameter and regional blood flow; sensory fibers may also convey information from vessel walls. Their arrangement helps explain how neural signals influence cerebral and facial circulation and how vascular changes can affect nearby neural structures. Studying these pathways supports anatomical education and informs research on headache mechanisms, cerebrovascular regulation, nerve injury, and surgical approaches involving arteries of the cephalic region.

Cooperation between an activated oncogene like RASV12 and mutations in cell polarity genes like scribbled, result in tumor growth in Drosophila where tumor cells also display invasive behaviors. Here a simple protocol for the induction and observation of the benign and invasive tumors is presented.

Cephalic Phase of Digestion

2024

The process of digestion is composed of three stages – cephalic, gastric, and intestinal – each with a distinct control center. The cephalic phase is the first stage, and it starts even before the food enters the stomach. It is controlled by the central nervous system and is initiated by any food-related sensory stimuli, such as the sight and smell of food, which send signals to the brain. While eating, the taste receptors intensify these signals, which travel to the cerebral cortex and then to...
