Co2 Enriched Conditions

CO2-enriched conditions are environments in which carbon dioxide levels exceed those of ambient air, allowing researchers to examine how elevated CO2 affects living systems. In plants, increased CO2 can enhance carbon fixation by Rubisco and photosynthesis while reducing stomatal conductance, which may improve water-use efficiency; responses also depend on light, temperature, and nutrient availability. These conditions are used in controlled growth experiments, greenhouse cultivation, and climate-change research to assess plant productivity, gas exchange, resource allocation, and acclimation. They also help clarify how changing atmospheric composition may influence biological processes and ecosystem function.

2026

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Environmental enrichment involves objects and practices that encourage natural behaviors, improve psychological well-being, and promote better welfare in laboratory rodents. Environmental enrichment should be tailored to the...

All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Importance of Environmental Enrichment Environmental enrichment is a fundamental component of laboratory animal care and welfare. It provides animals with opportunities to express species-specific behaviors, reduces stress, and...

Enrichment of Anode-Respiring Bacteria Using an On-Site Electrochemical System

Source: Okamoto, A., et al. Self-standing Electrochemical Set-up to Enrich Anode-respiring Bacteria On-site. J. Vis. Exp. (2018)This video demonstrates the use of an on-site electrochemical system to enrich anode-respiring bacteria (ARB) from natural reservoirs. A redox gradient is established by placing the anode in oxygen-free deep water and the cathode in oxygen-rich surface water. ARB form biofilms and transfer electrons to the anode, which flows to the cathode, where oxygen is reduced,...

Preparation of Mitochondrial Enriched Fractions for Metabolic Analysis in Drosophila

Mitochondria play central roles in the regulation of metabolism and homeostasis. Subtle changes in mitochondrial metabolism that affect organismal physiology could be difficult to detect in whole organism metabolomics studies. Here we describe an isolation method that enhances the detection of subtle metabolic shifts in Drosophila melanogaster.
