Embryo Survival

Embryo survival is the ability of an early embryo to remain viable and progress through development, a key outcome in biology, reproduction, and species continuity. It depends on accurate cell division and differentiation, successful implantation when applicable, and coordinated signaling with the surrounding maternal environment to secure nutrients, oxygen, and protection from harmful immune responses. Studying these processes helps researchers understand developmental failure, infertility, and pregnancy loss, while supporting assisted reproduction, embryo culture, fertility preservation, and conservation programs. Embryo survival research also provides insight into how environmental conditions and genetic abnormalities influence early development.

The monitoring of extracellular neurotransmitter levels in distinct brain regions of freely moving animals offers insights on the link between neurotransmitter release and behavior. In vivo microdialysis coupled with electrochemical detection provides excellent anatomical and chemical resolution; and information on how basal neurotransmission is altered by pharmacological or physiological manipulations.

Survival Curves

2025

Survival curves are graphical representations that depict the survival experience of a population over time, offering an intuitive way to track the proportion of individuals who remain event-free at each time point. These curves are widely used in fields such as medicine, public health, and reliability engineering to visualize and compare survival probabilities across different groups or conditions. The Kaplan-Meier estimator is the most common method for constructing survival curves. This...

Survival Tree

Survival trees are a non-parametric method used in survival analysis to model the relationship between a set of covariates and the time until an event of interest occurs, often referred to as the "time-to-event" or "survival time." This method is particularly useful when dealing with censored data, where the event has not occurred for some individuals by the end of the study period, or when the exact time of the event is unknown. Building a Survival Tree Constructing a survival tree begins...

C. elegans Survival Assay: A Short-Term Toxicity Test

2023

This video introduces a short-term survival assay that tests a treatment for acute toxicity or tests a genetic strain for resistance to a toxic condition. The example protocol shows an example survival assay in which worms are tested for their ability to resist oxidative stress induced by paraquat (PQ).
