Log Dose Probit Analysis

Log dose probit analysis is a statistical method for relating the logarithm of a dose or exposure level to the proportion of a biological population that responds, often dies or shows a defined effect. It transforms response percentages into probits, normal-equivalent units, and fits them against log-transformed doses to estimate a dose-response relationship, including the median effective or lethal dose (ED50 or LD50). In biology, this approach supports toxicity testing, pharmacology, pesticide assessment, and evaluation of pathogen or treatment effects. By summarizing variable individual sensitivity in a regression model, it enables comparisons among compounds, populations, and experimental conditions while quantifying uncertainty in response thresholds.

The Mantel-Cox Log-Rank Test

2025

The Mantel-Cox log-rank test is a widely used statistical method for comparing the survival distributions of two groups. It tests whether a statistically significant difference exists in survival times between the groups without assuming a specific distribution for the survival data, making it a non-parametric test. This flexibility makes the log-rank test particularly valuable in medical research and other fields where the timing of an event, such as death or disease recurrence, is of interest.

The cytogenetic dicentric chromosome (DC) assay quantifies exposure to ionizing radiation. The Automated Dicentric Chromosome Identifier and Dose Estimator software accurately and rapidly estimates biological dose from DCs in metaphase cells. It distinguishes monocentric chromosomes and other objects from DCs, and estimates biological radiation dose from the frequency of DCs.
