Mouse Brain Tissue

Mouse brain tissue is the organized neural tissue of the mouse brain, comprising neurons, glial cells, blood vessels, and extracellular structures that support information processing and behavior. Neurons communicate through electrical impulses and chemical synapses, while glial cells regulate the cellular environment, provide metabolic support, and influence neural signaling. Researchers use mouse brain tissue to examine neuroanatomy, gene and protein expression, neural circuits, development, and responses to injury or disease. Tissue sections, cultured samples, and freshly isolated regions can reveal cellular organization and molecular changes, making this model important for connecting biological mechanisms with neurological function and evaluating potential therapeutic approaches.

We describe a protocol for transcardiac perfusion of mice, removal and sectioning of the brain, as well as immunoperoxidase staining, resin embedding, and ultrathin sectioning of the brain sections. Upon completion of these procedures, the immunostained material is ready for examination with transmission electron microscopy.

(2016)In this video, a rheometer was used to apply controlled oscillatory rotational motion to brain tissue to generate shear strain and evaluate the tissue's viscous and elastic properties. The rheometer, as a functional tool, it provides insights into brain mechanics during injury or neurodegenerative diseases.
