Rubber Tubing

Rubber tubing is a flexible, hollow elastomeric conduit used to contain and transport liquids or gases, making it a practical component of many biological laboratory systems. Its elastic walls bend, compress, and recover their shape, allowing tubing to form sealed connections, accommodate movement, or deliver fluids when pressure differences or a peristaltic pump drive flow; performance depends on material compatibility, wall thickness, and operating conditions. In biology, rubber tubing supports cell culture setups, perfusion and circulation experiments, aspiration, gas exchange, and fluid handling, helping researchers control contamination, flow, and sample transfer during experiments.

The Rubber Hand Illusion

2023

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Reaching for objects, walking without hitting obstacles, landing on a chair as you sit (instead of falling to the floor), these and all our physical actions depend on an ability to perceive our own bodies in space, to know where our limbs are relative to one another and relative to the rest of the world. One way that the human brain encodes this information is called proprioception, the brain relies on its own control and feedback...

The Crossmodal Congruency Task as a Means to Obtain an Objective Behavioral Measure in the Rubber Hand Illusion Paradigm

2013

We demonstrate how an objective measure can be employed in the widely employed rubber hand illusion paradigm. This measure is obtained by modifying the well-established crossmodal congruency task. This task allows the investigation of multisensory processes which are critical for modulations of body representations as in the rubber hand illusion.

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...
