Suture Closure

Suture closure is a medical technique that brings separated tissue edges together with sterile thread to support wound repair and restore anatomical continuity. Sutures hold the margins in apposition, limiting movement and protecting the wound while biological healing progresses through inflammation, tissue formation, and remodeling; appropriate tension helps avoid impaired blood flow and excessive scarring. In biology and clinical research, suture closure provides a controlled model for studying tissue regeneration, wound healing, infection, and biomaterial performance. Its outcomes depend on tissue type, wound condition, suture material, placement, and postoperative care.

Q Suture Technique: A Suturing Technique to Reduce Gap Formation and Increase Tensile Strength in Tendon Repair

2025

In this video, we demonstrate suturing techniques — core suture and Q suture — to repair the foot flexor tendon in an ex vivo porcine model. Q sutures enhance the strength of the core suture in tendon repair and decrease gapping at the tendon repair site.

Sutures of the Skull

2025

The human skull is composed of several bones that come together to protect the brain and support the structures of the face. The junctions where these bones meet are called sutures. Sutures are immobile joints between adjacent bones of the skull. The narrow gap between the bones is filled with dense, fibrous connective tissue that unites the bones. The long sutures located between the skull bones are not straight but instead follow irregular, tightly twisting paths. These twisting lines tightly...
