Transarterial Chemoembolization

Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) is a minimally invasive cancer treatment that delivers chemotherapy directly to a tumor while restricting its blood supply, making it especially important in the management of liver cancer. During the procedure, clinicians guide a catheter through the arterial system to vessels feeding the tumor, then inject anticancer drugs followed by embolic materials that block blood flow. This combination increases local drug exposure and produces ischemia while limiting systemic treatment effects. TACE can control tumor growth, reduce tumor burden, and serve as a bridge to surgery or transplantation, making it a valuable approach in interventional oncology and cancer research.

Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the standard therapy for patients in the intermediate stage of hepatocellular carcinoma and is typically performed through femoral artery access. Compared with transfemoral access, transradial access (TRA) can decrease the rate of bleeding complications and improve patient tolerance. A method is presented here to perform transarterial chemoembolization via radial artery access.

Dual-phase Cone-beam Computed Tomography to See, Reach, and Treat Hepatocellular Carcinoma during Drug-eluting Beads Transarterial Chemo-embolization

Dual-phase cone-beam computed tomography (DP-CBCT) is a useful intraprocedural imaging technique for transarterial chemo-embolization treatment with drug-eluting beads of hepatocellular carcinoma. DP-CBCT has been used to perform three major steps in oncologic interventional radiology: tumor localization (see), navigation and intraprocedural catheter guidance (reach), and intraprocedural evaluation of treatment success (treat).
