Chromium Getter

A chromium getter is a reactive chromium-based material used to remove trace gases from a sealed or evacuated chemical system, helping maintain a clean, stable atmosphere. When activated, chromium presents a fresh metallic surface that chemically binds residual oxygen, water vapor, and other reactive gas molecules, lowering their partial pressures within the vessel. This gas-scavenging behavior supports high-vacuum conditions and limits contamination from unwanted oxidation or moisture. Chromium getters are therefore relevant to vacuum chemistry, sealed instruments, electronic devices, and materials processing, where controlled atmospheres improve measurement reliability, component performance, and the stability of sensitive samples.

Cathode poisoning from airborne contaminants in trace levels remains a major concern for long-term stability of high-temperature electrochemical systems. We provide a novel method to mitigate the cathode degradations using getters, which capture airborne contaminants at high temperature before entering electrochemically active stack area.

Habituation: Studying Infants Before They Can Talk

2023

Source: Laboratories of Nicholaus Noles, Judith Danovitch, and Cara Cashon—University of Louisville Infants are one of the purest sources of information about human thinking and learning, because they’ve had very few life experiences. Thus, researchers are interested in gathering data from infants, but as participants in experimental research, they are a challenging group to study. Unlike older children and adults, young infants are unable to reliably speak, understand speech, or even move and...
