Gold Electrode Modification

Gold electrode modification is the chemical or physical treatment of a gold surface to control its interfacial properties, improving how the electrode interacts with analytes, catalysts, or biological molecules. Commonly, thiol-containing compounds chemisorb onto gold through strong Au–S bonds, forming self-assembled monolayers whose terminal functional groups regulate surface charge, wettability, molecular recognition, and electron transfer. Researchers can further attach polymers, nanoparticles, enzymes, or other molecular layers to tailor electrode performance. In chemistry, these modified electrodes support electrochemical sensors, biosensors, catalytic studies, and investigations of interfacial electron-transfer processes, enabling greater selectivity, sensitivity, and control than an unmodified gold surface.

Histone Modification

2020

The histone proteins have a flexible N-terminal tail extending out from the nucleosome. These histone tails are often subjected to post-translational modifications such as acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination. Particular combinations of these modifications form “histone codes” that influence the chromatin folding and tissue-specific gene expression. Acetylation The enzyme histone acetyltransferase adds acetyl group to the histones. Another enzyme, histone deacetylase,...

Here, we present a protocol with a sol-gel process to synthesize gold intercalated in the walls of mesoporous materials (GMS), which is confirmed to possess a mesoporous matrix with gold intercalated in the walls imparting great stability and recyclability.

Spreading of Chromatin Modifications

The histone proteins in the nucleosomes are post-translationally modified (PTM) to increase or decrease access to DNA. The commonly observed PTMs are methylation, acetylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination of lysine amino acids in the histone H3 tail region. These histone modifications have specific meaning for the cell. Hence, they are called "histone code". The protein complex involved in histone modification is termed as "reader-writer" complex. Writers The writer is an enzyme that can...
