In-situ Monitoring

In-situ monitoring is the direct measurement of chemical conditions within a reaction, process, or material without removing the sample, enabling observations under its native operating conditions. It works by placing compatible probes or measurement systems in the reaction environment, where they continuously or repeatedly track signals linked to variables such as concentration, temperature, pressure, pH, or spectroscopic response as the system changes. In chemistry, these measurements reveal reaction kinetics, detect intermediates or endpoints, and identify deviations from expected behavior. By providing time-resolved data, in-situ monitoring supports process optimization, quality control, safer scale-up, and more reliable interpretation of dynamic chemical processes.

2018

Two 'Combined Stress test with in situ measurement' setups, which allow real-time monitoring of accelerated degradation of solar cells and modules, were designed and constructed. These setups allow the simultaneous use of humidity, temperature, electrical biases, and illumination as independently controlled stress factors. The setups and various experiments executed are presented.

Whole-Mount In Situ Hybridization

2023

Whole-mount in situ hybridization (WMISH) is a common technique used for visualizing the location of expressed RNAs in embryos. In this process, synthetically produced RNA probes are first complementarily bound, or "hybridized," to the transcripts of target genes. Immunohistochemistry or fluorescence is then used to detect these RNA hybrids, revealing spatial and temporal patterns of gene expression. Unlike traditional in situ hybridization techniques, which require thin tissue sections whose...

Here, we present a protocol to synthesize two metal chalcogenides (Cu1.8S and SnSe) suitable for thermoelectrics via an ultrafast (second-range), solvent-free, and one-step mechanochemical synthesis using elemental precursors. Simultaneously, we demonstrate the monitoring of the temperature in the jar during planetary ball milling in situ by the newly developed device.
