Mof Synthesis

MOF synthesis is the chemical preparation of metal-organic frameworks, porous crystalline materials assembled from metal ions or clusters and multitopic organic linkers. In a typical solvothermal process, metal precursors and linkers react in a solvent under controlled temperature, concentration, and time, while coordination bonds direct nucleation, crystal growth, and pore architecture; modulators can influence particle size and crystallinity. Researchers use MOF synthesis to tailor surface area, pore size, and chemical functionality for gas storage and separation, catalysis, sensing, and drug delivery. Reproducible synthesis also supports structure-property studies and scalable materials development.

Assembly of Porous Monolithic Materials Using a Pickering Emulsion Strategy Stabilized by Metal–Organic Framework (MOF) Particles

2026

This study successfully uses MIL-96(Al) Metal-Organic Frameworks particles to stabilize Pickering emulsions, which serve as templates to form mechanically robust, hierarchically porous monolithic materials. This method allows scalable MOF shaping while preserving crystal integrity. Tuning formulation is key to controlling pore size, interconnectivity, permeability, and robustness.

Source: Amber N. Barron, Ashlea Patterson, and Taylor D. Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Hydrogels are a versatile class of cross-linked polymers produced through relatively simple procedures and with generally inexpensive materials. They can be formed from solution and involve a polymer backbone formed from monomer reagents, an initiator which makes the polymer reactive and a crosslinking species which binds the polymer chains...

Source: Vy M. Dong and Diane Le, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine, CA Merrifield's solid-phase synthesis is a Nobel Prize winning invention where a reactant molecule is bound on a solid support and undergoes successive chemical reactions to form a desired compound. When the molecules are bound to a solid support, excess reagents and byproducts can be removed by washing away the impurities, while the target compound remains bound to the resin. Specifically, we will...

Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions

2020

Synthesis and decomposition are two types of redox reactions. Synthesis means to make something, whereas decomposition means to break something. The reactions are accompanied by chemical and energy changes. Synthesis Reactions Synthesis reactions are also called combination reactions. It is a reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a complex substance. Synthesis reactions are generally represented as: A + B → AB or A + B → C. The formation of nitrogen dioxide is a synthesis...
