Wash Bottles

Wash bottles are laboratory containers designed to dispense controlled streams of liquid, making them essential for rinsing glassware, washing precipitates, and adding small amounts of solvent in chemistry. A flexible plastic bottle holds the liquid while squeezing increases internal pressure, forcing it through a narrow, angled nozzle for directed delivery; releasing the bottle allows air to re-enter. Common contents include distilled water and compatible solvents, which should be clearly labeled to prevent contamination or unsafe use. Properly selected and handled wash bottles improve precision, reduce spills, and support efficient preparation, cleaning, and transfer procedures in chemical laboratories.

After filtration, the precipitate is washed to remove coprecipitated impurities and any remaining mother liquor. Colloidal precipitates, such as silver chloride, are washed with an electrolyte (such as dilute nitric acid) to prevent the peptization of the precipitate. In the case of slightly soluble precipitates, the wash solution contains a common ion to reduce solubility. Lead sulfate, which is slightly soluble in water, is washed with dilute sulfuric acid. Similarly, wash solutions may be...

Platelet metabolism is of interest, particularly as it relates to the role of platelet hyper- and hypoactivity in bleeding and thrombotic disorders. Isolating platelets from plasma is necessary for some metabolic assays; presented here is a method for isolating of intracellular metabolites from washed platelets.
