Zeolite Membrane Preparation

Zeolite membrane preparation is the fabrication of a continuous, crystalline zeolite layer on a porous support to enable selective molecular transport. Typically, zeolite crystals nucleate and grow from a synthesis gel under hydrothermal conditions, while controlling precursor composition, temperature, time, and support surface promotes a defect-free membrane with uniform micropores. These pores separate molecules according to size, polarity, and adsorption affinity, allowing some species to permeate more readily than others. In chemistry and chemical engineering, zeolite membranes support energy-efficient gas separation, liquid dehydration, hydrocarbon processing, and catalytic membrane reactors, where improved selectivity and stability can enhance process performance.
