Mass Balance Analysis

Mass balance analysis is a quantitative method that accounts for the distribution of a substance by comparing the amount introduced with the amounts recovered, transformed, or retained within a system. In clinical research, investigators track an administered compound and its metabolites across biological samples such as blood, urine, feces, or other relevant matrices, using measured concentrations and sample volumes to estimate recovery and disposition. This approach supports pharmacokinetic and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion studies by clarifying how the body handles a drug. Results can guide dose selection, metabolite characterization, safety assessment, and regulatory decisions.

2020

Electrochemistry is the science involved in the interconversion of electrical and chemical reactions. Such reactions are called reduction-oxidation, or redox reactions. These important reactions are defined by changes in oxidation states for one or more reactant elements and include a subset of reactions involving the transfer of electrons between reactant species. Electrochemistry as a field has evolved to yield sufficient insights on the fundamental principles of redox chemistry and multiple...

A specific and sensitive method to gain insight into the expression profile of glycosphingolipid antigens in immune organs and cells is described. The method takes advantage of the ion trap mass spectrometry allowing step-wise fragmentation of glycosphingolipid molecules for structural analysis in comparison to chemically synthesized standards.

Balance and Coordination Testing

Balance and coordination are critical components involved in the control of movement. Many sensory receptors and neural processing units are required to help individuals maintain balance while performing various activities. Deficits in balance and coordination occur in patients suffering from movement disorders or due to aging. Therefore, scientists are trying to understand the pathophysiology behind these conditions. One way to do that is by using rodent models and testing them on behavioral...
