Mobility Disability Care

Mobility disability care is the coordinated clinical support provided to people whose ability to move, walk, transfer, or maintain balance is limited by illness, injury, or congenital conditions. Care teams assess functional mobility, strength, balance, pain, and environmental risks, then use rehabilitation, positioning, transfer techniques, and assistive devices such as walkers or wheelchairs to promote safe movement and independence. This approach also helps prevent falls, pressure injuries, joint stiffness, and complications associated with prolonged inactivity. In clinical practice, mobility disability care supports individualized treatment planning, caregiver education, participation in daily activities, and improved quality of life across acute, outpatient, and long-term care settings.

Objective and easy measurement of sensory processing is extremely difficult in nonverbal or vulnerable pediatric patients. We developed a new methodology to quantitatively assess infants and children's cortical processing of light touch, speech sounds, and the multisensory processing of the 2 stimuli, without requiring active subject participation or causing discomfort in vulnerable patients.
