Bleeding Time Measurement

Bleeding time measurement is a functional test of primary hemostasis that estimates how quickly bleeding stops after a standardized skin puncture. It reflects coordinated vasoconstriction, platelet adhesion, activation, and aggregation to form a temporary platelet plug while the wound is monitored at defined intervals. In developmental biology, the assay can help evaluate how genetic or experimental changes affecting vascular integrity, platelet function, or hematopoietic development alter hemostatic performance. However, it provides a broad functional readout rather than identifying a single molecular defect, making it most useful when interpreted alongside platelet counts, coagulation studies, or tissue and molecular analyses.

Bleeding in Fresh Concrete

2024

Bleeding in fresh concrete occurs when water from the mix rises to the surface. This happens because the mix's solid components fail to retain all the water as they settle, leading to separation where water collects at the top. The severity of bleeding can be measured by assessing the total settlement or by noting the decrease in height per unit height of concrete. Bleeding can cause several issues in the concrete structure. Sometimes, the rising water gets trapped beneath large aggregate...

2025

This protocol employs dual-trap optical tweezers to measure inter-droplet forces in real time during the enzymatic digestion of emulsions. It facilitates the study of emulsion stability and droplet dynamics, with applications in food science and pharmaceuticals.

Measuring Reaction Time and Donders' Method of Subtraction

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University The ambition of experimental psychology is to characterize the mental events that support the human ability to solve problems, perceive the world, and turn thoughts into words and sentences. But people cannot see or feel those mental events; they cannot be weighed, combined in test tubes, or grown in a dish. Wanting to study mental life, nonetheless, Franciscus Donders, a Dutch ophthalmologist in the early 1800s, came up with a...

The protocol presented in this study describes methods for the real-time monitoring of reprogramming progression via the kinetic measurement of positive and negative pluripotent stem cell markers using flow cytometry analysis. The protocol also includes the imaging-based assessment of morphology, and marker or reporter expression during iPSC generation.

A Real-Time Wearable Electromyography Measurement System for Small Animals
