Ceiling Culture

Ceiling culture is a cell-culture technique in which adherent cells grow on the upper inner surface of an inverted vessel, providing a specialized way to study cell attachment, migration, and phenotype. Researchers seed cells into a completely filled flask, invert it so cells settle onto and attach to the surface above the medium, then return the vessel to its normal orientation for continued growth. In developmental biology, this method can enrich and characterize motile, fibroblast-like, or mesenchymal populations involved in tissue formation and repair. It also supports investigations of how gravity, substrate contact, and cell adhesion influence cellular behavior.

Generation of Human Adipose Stem Cells through Dedifferentiation of Mature Adipocytes in Ceiling Cultures

Mature adipocytes may represent an abundant source of stem cells through dedifferentiation, which leads to a homogenous population of fibroblast-like cells. Collagenase digestion is used to isolate mature adipocytes from human fat. The goal of our protocol is to obtain multipotent, dedifferentiated fat cells from human mature adipocytes.

Price Ceiling

2025

A price ceiling is a government-imposed limit on how high the price of a product can go. The limit is designed to ensure the affordability of essential goods. An example is the imposition of rent control, where high rental prices have made housing unaffordable for many residents. By capping rent prices, the government aims to make housing more accessible. When the rent ceiling is enforced below the equilibrium price, demand for apartments increases because more people can now afford to rent.

Price Ceiling and Inelastic Demand

2025

In markets with inelastic demand and supply, the quantities demanded and supplied exhibit minimal sensitivity to changes in price. When a price ceiling is imposed below the equilibrium price, the impact on both demand and supply remains limited due to the rigidity of these curves. In essential goods, such as medications or basic utilities—consumers continue to purchase nearly the same amount despite a price decrease. On the supply side, even with reduced profitability, suppliers only slightly...

Price Ceiling and Elastic Demand

2025

Elasticity refers to how strongly the quantity demanded or supplied responds to changes in price. When both demand and supply are elastic, small price changes result in significant shifts in the quantities traded. A price ceiling, which is a government-imposed limit on how high a price can be, is set below the equilibrium price. While intended to make essential goods affordable, this intervention often disrupts the natural equilibrium, particularly in markets with elastic demand and supply,...

This video demonstrates New culture, a method by which chick embryos are cultured outside the egg for up to 24 hr. This method enables one to study early development (primitive streak to 14 som.), a period corresponding to E7-9 in mouse. Applications of this technique include electroporation, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry.
