Ventricular Resection Zebrafish

Ventricular resection in zebrafish is a cardiac injury model in which a defined portion of the heart’s ventricle is surgically removed to study tissue repair and regeneration. After resection, the wound forms a transient clot and activates inflammatory, vascular, and molecular responses, while surviving cardiomyocytes near the injury proliferate and replace lost muscle. Researchers use this model in developmental biology to examine how cellular signaling, progenitor responses, and tissue interactions restore cardiac structure and function. Because zebrafish can regenerate substantial ventricular tissue, the approach helps identify conserved mechanisms that may inform research on heart injury and regenerative medicine.

(2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...

Here, we describe the preparation of viable ventricular slices from adult mice and their use for sharp electrode action potential recordings. These multicellular preparations provide a preserved in vivo like tissue structure, which makes them a valuable model for electrophysiological and pharmacological studies in vitro.
