Acrylic Resin Securing

Acrylic Resin Securing is a specimen-preparation step that stabilizes biological material within or beneath a polymerized acrylic resin matrix for microscopic analysis. Acrylic monomers harden through polymerization, forming a rigid support that protects delicate structures and helps maintain section integrity during cutting, mounting, and staining. In immunology and infection research, this approach can preserve cellular organization, microbial localization, and tissue interfaces while supporting downstream histological or immunolabeling workflows. Reliable resin attachment and controlled polymerization improve section handling, reduce structural distortion, and enable reproducible visualization of host responses and infectious agents in resin-embedded specimens.

Source: Schaeffer, J. W., Chandler, et al. Detection of Viruses from Bioaerosols Using Anion Exchange Resin. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the detection of viruses from bioaerosols using an anion exchange resin. A liquid impinger containing the resin is used to capture viruses from the air. The resin is collected and treated with a virus lysis buffer containing carrier RNA. The lysate is transferred to a microcentrifuge tube for viral RNA isolation, followed by qRT-PCR to amplify...
