Multicenter Study

A multicenter study is a research investigation conducted at two or more independent sites using a coordinated protocol, allowing evidence to be collected across different participant groups and settings. In immunology and infection research, investigators align eligibility criteria, specimen collection, laboratory assays, data-management procedures, and quality-control practices so that measurements can be compared or combined while accounting for site-level variation. This design can strengthen the assessment of immune responses, pathogen prevalence, diagnostic performance, treatment outcomes, or vaccine effectiveness, and may improve the generalizability of findings beyond a single institution. Clear governance and harmonized methods are essential for reliable interpretation.

The goal of this study is to use magnetic resonance venography with long-circulating gadolinium-based contrast agent and direct thrombus imaging for quantitative evaluation of DVT volume in a multicenter, clinical trial setting. Inter- and intra-observer variability assessments were conducted, and reproducibility of the protocol was determined.

There are many research methods available to psychologists in their efforts to understand, describe, and explain behavior and the cognitive and biological processes that underlie it. In 2011, the New York Times published a feature story on Krista and Tatiana Hogan, Canadian twin girls. These particular twins are unique because Krista and Tatiana are conjoined twins, connected at the head. There is evidence that the two girls are connected in a part of the brain called the thalamus, which is a...

A Preterm Rat Model for Pain Studies

2024

Here, we present a concise protocol for creating a preterm rat model, facilitating research on early postnatal pain management. The method involves performing a cesarean section three days before the expected birth, extracting preterm rat pups via hysterectomy, and integrating them with the biological offspring of a surrogate dam.

Behavioral reinforcement induced by the rewarding feelings following substance use sometimes leads to addiction, which is demonstrated by increased self-administration. Drug self-administration studies in rodents model human behavior during drug abuse. These models are useful in understanding the neurobiological behavior of addiction in order to help scientists discover new treatments for drug dependence. This video reviews the concepts underlying self-administration studies. A general...
