Tissue Microarray

A tissue microarray is a research tool that arranges small tissue cores from multiple specimens within a single paraffin block, enabling parallel analysis of biomarker expression across many samples. Researchers extract cores from donor tissues, transfer them into a recipient block, and section the array for techniques such as immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization. In immunology and infection research, tissue microarrays help compare immune-cell markers, pathogen-associated proteins, and inflammatory responses across diseased, infected, and control tissues. By conserving samples and reagents while improving experimental consistency, this approach supports biomarker validation, disease classification, and systematic evaluation of host-pathogen interactions.

Tissue microarrays allows for an efficient method to gain concurrent information from a multitude of tissues. Representative parts of tissues are assembled into a single paraffin block. Sections from the block are used for immunohistochemistry and analysis of protein expression patterns. Digital scanning generates corresponding images for distribution of data.

Expression Profiling with Microarrays

2023

Microarrays are important tools for profiling gene expression, and are based on complementary binding between probes that are attached to glass chips and nucleic acids derived from samples. Using these arrays, scientists can simultaneously evaluate the expression of thousands of genes. In addition, the expression profiles of different cells or tissue types can be compared, allowing researchers to deduce how the expression of different genes change during biological processes, and thus gain...

A technique called Comprehensive Microarray Polymer Profiling (CoMPP) for the characterisation of plant cell wall glycans is described. This method combines the specificity of monoclonal antibodies directed to defined glycan-epitopes with a miniature microarray analytical platform allowing screening of glycan occurrence in a broad range of biological contexts.
