Wounding Entrapment Device

A wounding entrapment device is a specialized tool that captures immune cells recruited to a localized injury, enabling direct study of cellular responses to tissue damage and infection. After a controlled wound is created, the device is positioned over the site so chemotactic signals draw leukocytes into a confined collection region, where physical barriers retain them for imaging or downstream analysis. In immunology and infection research, this approach helps characterize immune-cell recruitment, behavior, and function at the wound interface. By isolating wound-responsive cells without analyzing the entire organism, the device supports more precise studies of inflammation, host defense, and tissue repair.

This article provides a detailed and visual description of a methodology for collecting and measuring biochemical inflammatory and nociceptive mediators at the surgical wound site following cesarean delivery. This human bioassay has been used to determine correlations between wound and serum cytokine concentrations and drug-mediated changes in wound cytokines, chemokines and neuropetides.

Investigation of a Blue Light LED Device to Suppress Wound Pathogens Using a Collagen-Based Synthetic Skin Model
