Alanine Aminotransferase

Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme that transfers amino groups between amino acids and keto acids, and its blood concentration is widely used to assess liver cell injury. In a reversible transamination reaction, ALT converts alanine and alpha-ketoglutarate into pyruvate and glutamate, requiring pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. Because ALT is abundant in hepatocytes, damaged liver cells can release it into the bloodstream, producing elevated test results in conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, or medication-related injury. ALT testing supports diagnosis and monitoring, but clinicians interpret values alongside symptoms, medical history, and other laboratory findings.

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.

We have described a protocol for performing partial hepatectomy (PHx) and cell transplantation via spleen in NOD.SCID (NOD.CB17-Prkdcscid/J) mice. In this protocol, an incision is made to expose and resect the left lobe of the liver followed by another incision for the intrasplenic transplantation of cells.

Formation of Ordered Biomolecular Structures by the Self-assembly of Short Peptides

This paper describes the formation of highly ordered peptide-based structures by the spontaneous process of self-assembly. The method utilizes commercially available peptides and common lab equipment. This technique can be applied to a large variety of peptides and may lead to the discovery of new peptide-based assemblies.
